20 mistakes to avoid as an affiliate

If you like me are doing online business for multiple income streams, you must know Rosalind Gardner. She is recognized as a leading authority worldwide on the topic of affiliate marketing. Because of the best-selling book: Super Affiliate Handbook: How I Made $436,797 in One Year Selling Other People’s Stuff Online, she became the Queen of Affiliate Marketing. From her new book: Make a Fortune Promotion Other People’s Stuff Online, she shares 20 mistakes to avoid as an affiliate. I found its good because we can learn from the mistakes of others and alert myself not repeating these mistakes. So briefly, the 20 mistakes to avoid is:

  1. Spamming
  2. Not doing market research
  3. Failing to plan
  4. Posting ads on forums
  5. Overusing merchant ad copy
  6. Infringing on copyrights
  7. Submitting to Free-for-all sites
  8. Shouting
  9. Not responding to visitor emails
  10. Overusing pop-ups
  11. Using free-hosts and email accounts
  12. Not having an opt-in newsletter
  13. Keeping poor records
  14. Building a mall
  15. Out-of-date advertising
  16. Using leaky links
  17. Placing affiliate links on the homepage
  18. Trying to do it all
  19. Failing to act
  20. Giving up.

The other thing that I found useful is the marketing strategies from this book is “Marketing strategies to avoid”. Out there on the market, there are so many people try to teach us how to drive traffic to our website.  It makes us feel frustrating to figure out which one works. As a super affiliate, Rosalind discovered that these marketing strategies are not worth pursuing:

  • Link Trading
  • Free-for-All Links Pages
  • Banner Exchange Networks
  • Startpage or Homepage Traffic Networks
  • Refer-a-Friend Scripts: I personally try to use this one, but Rosalind is not recommending “You probably have seen refer-a-friend on sites you have visited. You enter both your name and email address, as well as those of a number of your friends. Hit the submit button, and a message gets sent to all those friends telling them what a great site you just found. These scripts are ineffective and not worth the time and energy it takes to load them onto your site”.
