Have you realized that nowadays the costs of our job are getting higher? do you have any idea how much your day-time job is costing you?
Recently me and my friend Lucy had a chat about the topic of job and life balance. Lucy is working full time, she has a 4-year old daughter. Lucy complained the crazy gas price and we started to talk about how much her full-time job is costing her . What we found through our discussion shocked Lucy, she never realize that the job costs are so hight that she actually doesn’t have much left after paying all the expenses.
Childcare and car expenses are the two biggest direct costs for the working parents with young children like my friend Lucy’s. And with the gas price continousely up and high, the transportation costs become the big mouth eating your paycheck everyday. For the past 4 months of this year, the gas price has increased 15%, that means you’ve paid extra $15 for each $100 gas bill. Other job related costs including: after-school care for children; clothing (most office jobs have dress codes); gifts for coworkers and colleagues; lunch out; drinks and coffee; convenience groceries shopping; last minutes shopping; dry cleaning; extra tax cost; education; etc.
When you have your paycheck deducted by all the above expenses, how much do you have left in your pocket? No matter how worse or better your number is, this deduction exercise urges you to think strategically how your job contributes to your fimily finance.
